Little notes

Weekly photo Challenge

Letters:For this week’s challenge, share a photo with letters — no matter the alphabet.A snapshot of how we communicate with one another, even if we don’t speak the same language

My best friend MPD and I had this thing we did. We started writing notes to each other in class. It started out as something we did to only talk to each other during class, but later on it helped us in many ways.

I remember this one day both of us had a huge fight. We didn’t talk to each other for an entire day.I know that isn’t much but for people like us who couldn’t keep our mouths shut when we were together,it was huge.Everyone in class got worried that we both were so quiet. So I wrote a note to her explaining why I was angry. It may seem stupid but I didn’t go tell her this directly because I was still mad at her.She read it and replied back. After a few notes we were laughing about the whole fight.

This habit continued with us,and even when we were shifted to different classes next year we wrote each other notes:happy, stupid, encouraging ones.

In this world of texting and e-mails it makes me very happy when someone gives me a hand written note or card.It shows they care enough to pen down a few words.

This she said was her trademark.BLAH! 😛

P.S:I still have all of those notes. They never fail to bring s smile on my face when I see them 🙂

Deafening SIlence

“How can you live in peace when you have your own battles going on inside?”

As I walk among busy crowds

I see people hustling by

lost in the noise of their mundane lives.

Earphones plugged in,music deafening

most of them try to drown out

the incessant cries of their hurting soul.

If you look closely

each one tells a different story.

They prevent exposing their true self

for fear they won’t be accepted.

It is much easier to just walk away

without care or thought.

No they aren’t wearing a mask.

It is a mere tool to distract

them from the stress and tensions of life

they want to run,

turn away and hide.

Why always choose the easy way out?

‘Coz it is less painful.

They don’t have to hear people

constantly accusing them

of not being good enough.

Calling them a failure

no matter how hard they try,

 reopening old wounds.

This world is harsh on those

genuinely trying to change

Even the little  courage

they gather to put behind their mistakes,

are lost in the careless whispers that float around

hopeless and trapped in the past

 they roam round and round

only to end up where they started.

Why is it so hard to let someone try again?

If you cannot encourage

atleast don’t put them down.

You never know when the tables will turn

and you might fail.

Put some thought,

would you like to be treated the same?

If I was stranded on a desert island…?

If today was your last day

I’d live like today was my last day.Basically, try to stay alive on the island.

If I was the last person on earth…?

Bring me to life

Yup!I’d bring back the person I love the most,’coz I don’t like living alone.

When no one is looking, I…?

I’d love you to want me

Maybe 😉

Steve’s Music Mix – Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda…

What I should do…?

More Than that

Yeah I guess, that’s God telling me I should do more than what I usually do to achieve my goal! Inspiring 🙂

What I shouldn’t do…?

I’m Alive

Being alive is one of the best gifts you can have.So I’m going to make the most of every moment.Isn’t it beautiful when you wake up each morning and realize that you have one more day to live.

What I Will Do…?

Told you So

I don’t like hearing that line,so I usually try and do what I’m told. 😛

Rape-A disgusting truth

One of the issues that has always bothered me is the growing number of rape cases in India. The age group of women being raped varies from girls who are less than a year old to old women past the age of 70.It is disheartening to know that nothing is being done to even try and stop this from happening.

The most heinous rape case was the one in December 2012 where a young medical student “Nirbhaya” (named by the public which means “The brave one”)was brutally raped in a local bus by men completely drunk and left to die naked on the road. She battled for her life for thirteen days before succumbing to her injuries.

It is utterly disgusting how few Indian police officers blame the way young women dress as the reason they get raped.

They Invite trouble by dressing that way!”,”It is against our culture.”

They also make comments like “Boys make mistakes!”.Raping someone isn’t a mistake,it is a crime you commit when you violate a person’s body without their consent.

One of the ministers even used this issue as a campaign mechanism to gain votes. It is shameful to know that such shallow minded people exist in our country.

BJP’s Rajya Sabha member and Madhya Pradesh party vice-president Raghunandan Sharma has come up with bizarre suggestions to check crime against women: Girls shouldn’t be allowed to use mobile phones before marriage and women shouldn’t wear jeans.  He termed cellphone usage by students, particularly young girls, as a big menace and the genesis of other evils. The BJP leader lambasted girls wearing jeans, saying it was the attire of American cowboys and in no way gelled with the Indian culture.

A video of how women are sexually objectified, where men openly say that they chase women with tight dresses and short skirts because they can’t help themselves.

There was also a case in Mangalore where people call themselves “The Moral Police”  attack women going to pubs and treat them in the most inhuman way.How can they even call themselves humans? They beat, kick and even strip the lady. And they say they are doing this for the betterment of the society. If they don’t know how to respect women ,how are they doing us any good?

The one thing I cannot understand is how ruthless can these people be if they have to rape small innocent children and leave them scarred for life. What causes them to behave in such a way?Are they people who have never been in contact with the female species or are they normal looking people we find around us everyday.Don’t they have mothers, sisters, wives or daughters?

The solution they say to this is “Don’t let your daughter stay out late”,”Ask them not to dress up provocatively”,”They shouldn’t talk to boys”,”They shouldn’t be allowed to work”,”They should get married off at an early age”.

These are not solutions! This is taking away our basic right to freedom!

Why no one points a finger at any man and says “You must treat women with respect”.Why are boys not told “Don’t look at a girl with lust”.Why is it that only women have a moral responsibility to behave a certain way,and men can do whatever they wish to.

Here is a video from a TV show called Satyamev Jayate which means ” Truth Alone Triumphs” .In this episode women share their real life experiences.I know it is divided into 6 parts but it is only about an hour. Please do give it a watch. It shows the exact reality of the ongoing situation.

Part-1, Part-2,Part-3,Part-4,Part-5,Part-6

P.S:I’ve only mentioned a few cases here. There are many cases which go unreported for fear of being looked down by society as if it is the victim’s fault foe being raped.

Stolen Childhood

They stand alone

though together.

Life is nothing

to them,but survival.

They search for life

in heaps of garbage

their sole refuge.

In that mess

happiness they try to find.

A dollar bill,

a torn frill

or a useless old box

this is what they call treasure hunt.

They are shabby street urchins

covered with grime.

The street is their home

where dwell the rejected

their world grey and void

and of all happiness devoid.

They see children their age

dressed up for school

accompanied by their mothers,

showered with extra love and affection

their innocent minds cannot comprehend.

They barely see their parents

as they work to survive.

They cease to exist.

They cease to dream

to break the bonds of poverty

to live with dignity.

They seek to live

where justice prevails

where they are granted

their freedom and rights

for which they need not fight.

They seek for help

and not mere passersby

who stop only for a second

feeling sorry about their situation

and then walk by as if nothing happened.

They try to find

their lost childhood

on the streets or in little scraps of leftovers.

Is this all that they deserve?

Is it something too much to ask for?

A better childhood.

IMperfect World

I like to sleep because I love to dream.

‘Coz when I dream

I see a perfect world

complete by itself.

A world without hatred

an enemy of the soul.

A world full of love

joy radiating from above.

A world where people share and care,

and for each other they bear

sufferings patiently.

I see a virgin world

pure and chaste

free from man’s evils

where all live in peace.

No wars,no bloodshed.

And where sorrow is a word long forgotten.

I dream of such a world

where caste or creed doesn’t matter.

It is each person’s deed

that makes them good or bad.

Color doesn’t define

people who stand up for what is right

and never give up the good fight.

The people in the world I dream of

have Hope as their strength,

understanding their courage.

They may appear weak

but are strong within.

But alas it remains a dream

a world far from reality,

in the depths of my mind.
